Put-A-Thon for the Jimmy Fund
March 27, 2008It is time for our 4th annual Put-A-Thon for the Jimmy Fund fight against cancer!
We at Bell and Hudson Insurance wanted to do something to fight cancer. My mother has worked at Bell and Hudson for 23 years and I have worked there for 5. My father passed away from cancer in 2003. A coworker and neighbor of mine also lost her husband to cancer and he was a great loyal friend to my father. Our boss's sister has been fighting this disease for years. We've all been touched in some sort of way to this disease so we wanted to do something.
Being an agency of mostly females none of us really play true golf, so that was out of the question. We came up with the idea of mini-golf. If you raise $100 you can play 100 holes of mini-golf and all of the proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer institute. People can also donate and have a loved one's name placed on a memory board, in honor of board, t-shirt, and at a hole. It is sad that the t-shirt is so filled up so we are working on a new design. We have also started selling cancer bracelets, bookmarks an key chains which have beads that are colred representing the different forms of cancer. People are coming from all over for these items. We have raised $81,500 in the last 3 years and intend on breaking a record again this year. We are the first to do such a thing and the Jimmy Fund is quite impressed. They ahve used our model and other businesses have started their own put-a-thon.
If anyone would like to help or sonsor a hole for their loved on please either drop me a message, go to bellandhudson.com, or go to the Jimmy Fund website and click on the golf program and look for the Bell and Hudson/ Evergreen Golf Put-A-Thon for more details.
